An argument on the formal elements of art

Introduction

The use of formal elements in art is very important because it helps the person analyzing the art understand various aspects of the art in question. In general, a successful combination of formal elements helps to determine how a piece of art will look like ones completed. Consequently, when a person is able to identify the various formal elements in an art, the said person is able to tell the effectiveness of art in passing a message to the audiences (Hurwitz and Michael 186). This paper illustrates how effective formal elements are vital in analyzing an art. The paper argues that the use of formal elements in the art in question catches and keeps my attention to the art in question.

Argument

For me, the piece of art in question represents a person of high caliber because of the crown on her head and the sword on her chest. On one hand, the person might be a queen or a symbol of worship. This is irrespective of the fact that the person seems to be in distress.

The art is compelling to me because of the mood the color used in the art creates. In fact, if you look carefully at the art in question, you will be able to identify the sorrowful mood of the woman in the art.

The first formal element that catches and keeps my attention to this piece of art is the tone of the art. By the tone of the art, I mean the lightness and the darkness of the piece of art in question (Hurwitz and Michael 186). If you look carefully at this piece of art, you will realize that the focus of the art which is the woman is bright while the background of the art that does not play critical roles in this art is dark. This formal element helps the person to pay more attention to the woman and what she represents rather than paying much attention to the background that is unimportant to the art.

The second formal element that catches and keeps my attention on the piece of art in question is its texture. If you look closely at the art in question, you will establish that you can tell the type of the clothes the woman in the art wears. At the same time, you will establish that if you were to meet the woman in the art in the street, you would identify her because texture enables you to get a visual sense of how the woman would appear in real life (Frohardt 30). In other words, you can tell that her clothes are soft, hairy, and smooth. Accordingly, texture catches and keeps my attention on the art in question.

The third formal element that catches and keeps my attention to the art in question is the color of the art. On the one hand, the use of the color in this art creates the mood for the art. In other words, the use of red and white color together with the bluish color in the background creates an emotional mood. On the other hand, the use of the color in this piece of art creates the depth of the art by using light color on the woman who is the center of focus in the art and using dark colors in the background (Hurwitz and Michael 186).

The fourth formal element that catches and keeps my attention on the art in question is the use of both vertical and horizontal lines. To a great extent, the art in question utilizes vertical lines to illustrate the height of the woman in the art. On the other hand, the art utilizes horizontal lines to give a sense of the space and rest. Above all, the use of lines in this art gives the art in question shape and form (Frohardt 4).

Conclusion

In conclusion, it would be important to note that the art in question combines the formal elements of art to create my response that thee woman in question might either be a queen or a symbol of worship.
