Sample Article Review on Cloud Computing

Summary of the Article Understanding the Determinants of Cloud Computing Adoption

Cloud computing is an application that enables computers to share data from different locations. Businesses find it easy to use cloud computing because its efficiency, cost effectiveness, reliability, flexibility, and availability. The article talks about the adoption of cloud computing technology in Taiwan by high technology industries. It also looks at the factors surrounding the use of this technology in companies and adoption strategy applied. This technology is extremely important in an industry because it facilitates processes, such as data storage, sharing, and mining. This brings down costs associated with technology and process development. Cloud computing enhances business transaction conducted through the internet by companies for various reasons (Sosinsky 34). Different users are able to undertake transaction activities from any locations in the world provided they can access the internet. An example of the application of cloud computing is in airline business. Airline companies use this technology to sell air ticket to their customers all over the world. This has not only increased customer base for the airline companies but also saves time spent by customers to purchase air ticket from the airline offices.

Significant and Important Of Contribution

Clouding computing is amongst the new technology developed in the recent past. Many businesses in Taiwan have embraced the technology. It is observed that they gain a lot from using cloud-computing technology. Some of the benefits include availability, accessibility, and efficiency. This article outlines and explains some of the factors that affect the application of this technology. In addition, it brings out the definition of computing technology in firms that have adopted its use. Furthermore, there is also some degree of factors that contribute to the utilization of the technology by firms. These factors involve the security issues, compatibility, trial ability, relative advantage, Observability, and complexity. The study is categorical about the advantages of using the technology, especially in a business set up.

Key Arguments Made By the Article

The process of implementing cloud computing requires the support of the top management in a company. Strategic management makes decision on behalf of the company. This means that any decision made about the use of technology will involve innovative service delivery that is dependent on the managerial skills. Support from the top management will ensure that this technology is integrated into the system within a short period of time. Another factor that affects adoptability is the degree of preparation done to incorporate the new system into the organization. Competition in the market has intensified in the sense that firms have continually adopted the new technology. Therefore, in cases where a company is reluctant to incorporate the new technology into its systems, it is deemed to fail in its data collection, retrieval, and sharing process. Another argument brought out in this article is on the accrued benefits that an organization attains after the adoption of the technology (Marks and Lozano 32). It is argued that a firm applies cloud technology to boost employee’s performance in order for them to achieve their goals and objectives. Employee’s development in terms of skills and competence is largely dependent on the experience he or she gets while performing his or her duties in the organization. In high technology businesses, which are prone to technological advancement, companies will be committing gross mistake by failing to adopt any new technological advancement. They will lose their competitive edge in the market and eventually they will be forced to leave the market.

Conceptual Model of the Paper

This paper involves different variables, such as competition and the size of the organization. All these variables determine the technological adoptability issues in the organization.

From the above diagram, competition in the market affects the decision of a firm to adopt cloud computing. Firms fear losing customers to their competitors and reducing production levels if they do not engage in cloud computing as their competitors does.

Uses of the Paper by Researchers and Practitioners

Researchers conduct their study using this paper in various ways. They will analyze and find out the reason behind fear caused to high technology companies by the use of this new technology. Moreover, it may also serve them while coming up with new models to be incorporated in the system. Security issues are some of the main reasons as to why companies fear to engage in this new adventure. A researcher will use this article to uncover the reality on security issues. On the other hand, a practitioner will be interested in this paper details in the following ways. One is that he or she will be looking for the benefits and cost of the project. Where the cost involved is low with huge benefits associated, then a decision to go on with the Endeavour is the best while the vice versa is true. The second thing that a practitioner does is to evaluate factors that affect cloud computing adoptability so that they can install drivers to run these programs.
