Information Technology (IT) has become a very critical and essential part of many grown
and upcoming business enterprises at every corner of the globe, ranging from the most
significant international business corporations who operate large mainframe computer systems
the middle ones as well as extreme databases to the tiny businesses owning a single computer
(Buntin et al., 2017).
Computer technology has resulted in the success of many and significant business
enterprises across the world, and this has made and encouraged many to adopt the use of
computers in running businesses all over the world (Blili & Raymond, 1993). Information
Technology (IT) has shown success in a wide range of fields such as the communication among
employees with their suppliers and customers, the control and management of stock commodities
many business entities, management of various data for companies, the storage of large and
extensive information, online communications and many more fields in the globe.
Information Technology has played an essential role in communication now, most of
companies usually use emails as a way of communication between the various employees, their
customers, and their potential suppliers (Luftman et al., 2017). Emails are known to be one of the
first early communications over the internet, providing an affordable and straightforward
communication mode. Apart from the use of emails, over the years, Information Technology has
developed various communications tools, allowing people to communicate on live chats and
holding online meetings using video conference technology. This generally has shown a positive
impact when it comes to communication.

Information Technology has also introduced inventory management systems used by
many business organizations worldwide to manage various stocks in their businesses and
companies. The inventory management system usually tracks all the quantities of different
commodities and items in a company and record all sales of things to when to order for more
stock when it falls below a particular and specified amount. For these inventory management
systems to work best, they are usually connected to the point of sale (POS) system (Dube &
Gumbo, 2017). The POS system records all the sold commodities and removes them from the
system, and this allows for proper record keeping of all sales done in the business.
Currently, many companies store their large and bulky information about their activities
on servers and digital storage devices. After being held, this information is readily available to
every person to access the company regardless of how and where it is stored. Companies and
businesses have benefited from this since it is now easy to store and access various data files and
access them easily in times of need (Jin et al, 2019). The kept data is used in the showing of the
progress of the company's activities as well as strategic planning. This can also be used to know
the number of profits the companies have been making over a specified period.
Information Technology has made it easy for companies to improve the relationship
between them and their customers. This has been made probable by the use of the Customer
Relationship Management system (CRM) (Bhat & Darzi, 2016). These system captures all the
interactions a company has encountered with a customer to improve their serving skills. This
also allows companies to know the kind of commodities required by various customers for
successful stock management and productivity.
Computer technology has brought about a paperless office strategy whereby the
employees' use of papers is significantly reduced, thus reducing the much costs associated with
4
paperwork (Li & Hu, 2017). This has also improved the efficiency among the employees.
Employing a paperless office strategy means that the employees, customers, and all the company
suppliers use online computerized technology in recording all the possible transactions done,
thus reducing the wastage of time associated with paperwork.
Computer technology has allowed almost all businesses and companies to have their
business websites (Myers 2019). These websites play the role of explaining more about the
company entities to various customers around the globe. Some of the company posts most of
their commodities on their websites where many customers can access them and make orders of
purchase on the same website. A good example is Amazon and Alibaba, which are considerably
growing and making profits worldwide. These websites also provide contacts and locations of
these companies making it easier for customers to reach them.
The use of information technology has currently played a very important role in medical
science since it has brought about the invention of Health Information Technology (HIT) (Perlin
2016) .The health information technology is used I hospitals for the storage of patients’
information so as to easily diagnose and track the progress of different patients. The various
developments in Information technology has also brought about an important and significant
improvements in the study of medical education around the world. This is because most of the
required information about various medical topics and researches are readily available from the
internet. Due to the invention of the use of video conferencing and live chats, the medical
students in various colleges are able to access online studies even without their physical present
in the school. This has always ensured a continuous interaction between the students and their
tutors.
5
Considering the field of education generally, Information Technology has really brought
about a very big change since the internet currently has billions of study materials where students
can access every kind of information whenever they want at their convenient (Spante et al,
2019). This has also improved the research projects done by students since they can actually
access the required tools from their internet unlike the past when they were required to go to the
library and find out various books related on the same. This greatly helped in saving time as well
as improving students’ efficiency and accuracy in their school work.
The implementation of computer technology has improved the security sector at an
enormous scale (Kumar & Mallick, 2018). Many companies and businesses usually deal with
private and confidential information that requires very high and tight security cover. This
information includes credit card numbers, phone numbers, credit records, and their customers'
transaction records. Computer technology has always ensured the security of these data and
information since the computers are secured using unique and improved password technology,
including fingerprints and face recognition when accessing information in their companies.
Information Technology has brought about sharing information among various
companies, which helps to share ideas on the different management skills and deal with
customers. By doing so, many businesses have acquired knowledge on multiple aspects, thus
improving their productivity (Boateng, 2020). On another aspect, Information Technology has
made it easier for various employees in different departments or even those in remote areas to
work together. They can communicate online and make multiple decisions about their varied
work fields.
In conclusion, Information Technology has generally improved how business entities and
companies carry out their activities. This ranges from the improved communications among the
6
workers in a company as well workers from different companies to improve on their
productivity, the mode of holding live chats and video conferencing among various workers to
share in other matters affecting their activities, the storage of large masses of data for the
companies, the improved customer service interaction and also the use of various ways of
securing business data has brought a very significant positive impact on the involved businesses
and companies all over the globe.
