Sample Research Proposal Paper on The Organizational Problem

Manual Creation of Network Domain User Accounts in Digital Fl. Company

The Organizational Problem

This paper regards a research project that will be conducted in the above mentioned company, which manually creates network domain user accounts for all its five of the corporate domains that it owns. This is problematic because it reduces the efficiency in serving those who seek the services it offers. Instead, the company could make use of automation techniques to maximize its efficiency. These techniques will ensure that the accounts created are fast enough to serve many customers at a time. This saves time and increases the number of customers, as using the techniques will attract more people. The company has five corporate domains and thus, due to the high number of the domains used, there is a need to apply faster techniques to create user accounts.

This makes the costs of the company to go up because there are more expenses that are incurred as a result of the manual work, which could be solved by applying faster techniques. In addition to this, applying the techniques will promote advancement of technology in the company. This is because the techniques will not be in use without some installation of some required tools and machines, which are their complements. Thus, the management will have to look for professionals who will do the installation, thus more advancement. This will harmonize the operations of the company and thus activities that are more productive will be engaged in thus more efficiency at the same time.

The Problem Statement

In most cases, there are dozens to hundreds of user accounts that need to be created. This is because many people have been attracted to seek services from Digital Fl. Company. In addition to this, there are multiple application accounts that need to be created per every new customer that visits the company in need of its services. This makes the work more tedious and hard to accomplish the main objectives of the company, among them being serving many customers with efficiency, which will satisfy them to the fullest. These user accounts can be created using an automated process, but this option has been avoided in the past due to the low designing of the programs or scripts needed to complete the tasks.

In the past, the company has been employing employees to work on the tasks, each spending a range of 50 to 70 hours completing the requests (Chellis, Robichaux & Sheltz, 2006). With the increase in the number of requests that the company receives, there has been as addition of six more employees in an attempt to increase the rate at which the requests are attended to. However, this does not still work because the rate only changes a little bit. This is because the number of employees increases as well as the work to be done, in this case the requests to be attended to. This creates a need for adoption of other faster techniques of attending to the requests to save time as well as high costs that the company has been incurring as a result.

Research hypothesis

In addition to the questionnaires that will be issued to the respondents so that they will give their opinions, the following statements will be proved to be either right or wrong after the study:

The efficiency of the company has been affected negatively by use of the manual process of creation of user accounts.

Most of the customers are not satisfied with the process of service delivery offered to them by the company.

The company has been incurring extra costs due to use of manual techniques in attending to the requests it receives form customers and thus less profits.

The research strategy\Methodology

The study will involve quantitative methodology or a mixed method strategy. The methods will involve use of research questions that the researcher will make use of, to collect relevant information. These questions will be in form of questionnaires that will be structured and will require the respondents to give their responses on them. The respondents will be employees, managers, other subordinate staff as well as users of the accounts. Managers, employees, and other subordinate staff will help in provision of informing knowledge about the manual creation of the accounts in all the five corporate user accounts. In addition to this, they will give some of their opinions about the task and some of the challenges that they have been facing as a company.

In addition to this, users will help to get opinions concerning the services that they have been receiving from the company. This strategy only involves close stakeholders and thus it is effective, as it will give relevant information as those involved are richly informed of the services offered by the company. This will be more cost effective to implement a software solution that is developed in-house to meet the challenging task. In addition to this, the company has sufficient programming test that is used to address the problem of creating software. The current new hires are not subject-matter expert’s (SME’s) in this area of network administration and often fail to complete essential steps in the process. This causes other departments to resolve user account issues that could have been avoided. Additionally, the effect on customer satisfaction reflects poorly on these other departments, since the responsible department in not customer facing. The questionnaires will be issued first before the study begins. This will help the respondents to gather any information that they think will be of help to the management in coming up with solutions to the problem. They will also be able to know what  kind of information they are required to respond to and thus will prepare their minds.

Sample size

The study will target companies that produce software using manual techniques specifically in Digital Fl. Co. The target population, the number of the companies that produce software using the technique in the region is about 36 (Lowe, 2005). The respondents given the questionnaires will be six in total, among them being the manager, the head of departments, employees’ representative, customers’ representative and the software and web designer of the company. Since it is impossible to include all the companies that produce software, Digital Fl. Company will represent them all. At this point, it is necessary to note that this is an assumption that the study has incorporated. It is assumed that the problems faced by these companies when they use manual techniques in creating user accounts for their customers are the same. Thus, the problems any information that will be extracted form the study applies to all the companies.

Data collection

The instrument that will be used to conduct the research is a survey that will make use of five questions that will be open ended. The questionnaire will be prepared before the day of conducting the research and will be issued to the respondents before the interview is conducted. This will ensure that they will prepare enough and will gather any other information that they think is relevant and will help in finding a solution to the problem. Any other information that they feel useful to the research will be filled at the end of every question. The following questionnaire will be used in the study:

What are some of the challenges that are experienced when creating a user account manually:

What are some of the changes that need to be undertaken by the company to increase its efficiency?

How do you think the status of the company will change in the future after adoption of these changes?

How would you rate the level of service that you offered/received at the company the last time you needed or offered the company’s services?

Do you feel that the company has adopted enough of the modern technology in its creation of its accounts? Why?

Data Analysis and Measurement

The data collected will later be analyzed by a few computer science professional that will be chosen later after the study from the industry. A few professional volunteers, among the being representatives of the management team of the company will be involved. This will help in clarifying some of the information gathered that could not be well understood. The reliability as well as validity of the information will be tested to ensure that heavy weighted information only is used to propose some solutions to the problem. Data measurement will involve classifying the data into intervals, using the interval measurement method depending on the nature of data provided by the respondent. In addition to this, regression analysis method will be used to test the accuracy as well as consistency of the information collected by the professional chosen.

Ethical Considerations

During the study, the researcher will need to consider some of the actions that he will undertake and might be unethical. This will involve ensuring that confidential matters such as the names of the respondents are not revealed to the rest of the non-participants. (Lowe, 2008). It is important to promise the respondents of securing their confidentiality, thus, they will provide all relevant information. In addition to this, the sponsor will need to get quality information and thus the interviewer will ensure that bias free information is collected using the right method. The researcher also needs to be protected and has to make sure that he has the right tools for work so that the data that will be collected will be accurate and reliable. Another consideration to make is the rewards as well as the compensation to give to the respondents. If the researcher intends to reward them for helping him obtain some information, it is necessary that he makes the promise before the study begins and this will motivate the respondents to give honest responses.
