The Web-based communication plays a greater role in governance. The utilization of web-based communication for political reasons has become a significant part of the political setting over the current voting successions, specifically among the young individuals (Smith 5). The conventional web-based information resources like the online editions of news organizations, political aspirant websites together with the portal websites have become a customary catalog of political information sources for many individuals. The web-based communication is a global mechanism for information distribution. The policy webs are currently rising as the foremost organizational form for ensuring greater innovation, nimbleness and individual involvement in the policy making process (Digital-era Policy making, 3). During the 2008 and the 2010 presidential campaigns, the public increasingly utilized the web for political information including obtaining the aspirants and campaign information, redistribution and exchange of political news and taking part in campaigns. Over three quarter of the total population in America, utilized the web-based communication to participate or obtain information regarding the 2008 and the 2010 campaigns.

The web-based communication has been a chief contributor in the political policy making process. It has a major influence on the public attitude as it can change the citizen’s perceptions concerning the political aspirants and the political system. Presently, web-based communication is the key source of information that citizens based their decision on. It is through web-based communication that the citizens get informed about the government policies and their effects and about the views to government policies that are suggested by the opposition candidates and the civilization. The public’s opinion is normally based on the web-based communications. The citizens hardly ever take their time to research and get more information about the political aspirants from other sources. The public lacks their own knowhow concerning how things are supposed to work, and instead of accepting as true what they know is the truth, they agree to the information given on the web. Web-based communication may promote social division, whereby the public retreat into websites to gather content that are in support of their point of views and take part in partisan expressions with people of one mind. People usually choose to produce content for the purpose of enhancing self-awareness and expressing their identity. Those taking part in online communities are likely to drift down towards their ideological camp, which further strengthens the political identity within its place among these in agreement (Baumgartner & Morris 20).

In conclusion, web-based communication has a great influence on the public attitudes and the political policy making process as it affects individuals perceptions concerning the general political system. This is mainly because; web-based communication has become a global mechanism for the distribution of political information and is the major means of interaction between the public, the government and the political aspirants.
